Our Story
Nivora Home Healthcare Services (U) Limited emerged from a profound understanding of the healthcare challenges facing Ugandans. Our founder, Benjamin Kitandwe, experienced firsthand the significant difficulties families encounter when caring for loved ones with chronic illnesses or disabilities.
These personal experiences revealed the critical gaps in Uganda's healthcare system—particularly the disconnect between hospital care and home recovery, the shortage of trained healthcare professionals available for in-home support, and the financial and emotional burden placed on families.
Benjamin's vision was shaped by his professional background in healthcare practice and his unwavering belief that quality healthcare should be accessible to all Ugandans, regardless of their location or economic status. With determination and passion, he assembled a team of like-minded healthcare professionals who shared his commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery in Uganda.
In 2024, after extensive research, planning, and consultation with healthcare experts, Nivora was officially established. Starting with a small team serving clients in Wakiso, the organization quickly gained recognition for its exceptional quality of care, innovative approach, and genuine compassion for clients. What began as a modest enterprise has now evolved into a promising home healthcare provider, continuously expanding its services, reach, and impact across Uganda.

The Ugandan Healthcare Landscape
Understanding Nivora's significance requires a clear picture of Uganda's healthcare context
Infrastructure Limitations
Uganda faces significant healthcare infrastructure challenges, with only one hospital bed available for every 1,000 people, compared to the World Health Organization's recommended 3 beds per 1,000 people.
Healthcare Personnel Shortage
The country has approximately one doctor per 25,000 people, far below the WHO's recommended ratio of 1:1,000, creating severe limitations in healthcare delivery capacity.
Geographic Disparities
Healthcare facilities are concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural communities (which comprise over 75% of Uganda's population) with limited access to quality healthcare services.
Disease Burden
Uganda faces a dual burden of communicable diseases (including HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis) and rising non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer), placing immense pressure on the healthcare system.
Financial Barriers
Out-of-pocket healthcare expenses account for approximately 40% of total health expenditure, creating significant financial barriers for many Ugandans.
Aging Population
Uganda is experiencing a growing elderly population, increasing demand for long-term care services that the traditional healthcare system is ill-equipped to provide.
In this challenging landscape, Nivora's model of bringing professional healthcare services directly to people's homes represents a transformative solution that addresses many of the systemic gaps in Uganda's healthcare system.
